And honestly, sorting algorithms are one of those things that sound scarier than they are. So, let's break them down. We've got Bubble Sort, Selection Sort, and Insertion Sort on our list, right?Yeah, and I always think of Bubble Sort as, well, like sorting your muddy hiking boots after a trip. You keep comparing two boots, swapping them if one's heavier, and you keep doing that until the heaviest boots are at the end. It's repetitive, but it works—eventually. I actually did this after a particularly soggy camping trip, trying to get my gear in order by weight. Took ages, but it was oddly satisfying.That’s such a James thing to do! Bubble Sort is definitely the slow and steady approach. Now, Selection Sort is a bit more efficient. Imagine you’re picking out the lightest boot from the pile and putting it at the front, then repeating for the next lightest, and so on. It’s like organizing your bookshelf by always finding the smallest book and moving it to the right spot.And then there’s Insertion Sort, which is more like sorting playing cards in your hand. For loops are great when you know how many times you want to repeat something—like checking every student’s homework in a class of 30. While loops are for when you don’t know how many times you’ll need to go round—like waiting for everyone to hand in their work, which, let’s be honest, could take forever.I’m definitely more of a for loop person. I like knowing when things will end. But I get the appeal of while loops—sometimes you just have to keep going until the job’s done. Reminds me of waiting for the rain to stop on a geography field trip. No idea when it’ll end, but you just keep checking.That’s so true. Actually, I had my students draw a flowchart for a recycling app last term. There was this big debate about where to put the decision points—like, “Is the item recyclable?” Some wanted to check at the start, others at the end. You’ve got Integers for whole numbers, Floats for decimals, Chars for single characters, Booleans for true or false, and Strings for text. Each one’s got its own best use—like, you wouldn’t store someone’s name as an Integer, right?Unless their name is 007, maybe. But yeah, picking the right data type is key. And then you’ve got your operators—arithmetic for maths, comparison for checking if things are equal or not, and logical for combining conditions. It’s like building blocks for your code.Don’t forget data structures! Arrays or lists let you store loads of values in one place, like a class register. Tuples are like lists you can’t change—handy for things that shouldn’t be edited. Dictionaries are brilliant for key-value pairs, like matching student names to their grades. And if you’re feeling fancy, there’s stacks and queues—think of them as lines at the canteen, either last-in-first-out or first-in-first-out.I always get stacks and queues mixed up. Is it stacks that are like a pile of plates—last one on, first one off?That’s right! And queues are like waiting for the bus—first in, first out. Now, let’s talk string magic. You can slice strings, find bits of text, replace things... My class loves the emoji replacement challenge. We take a sentence and swap out all the vowels for emojis. It’s silly, but it really helps them remember how .replace() works.That sounds brilliant. I might have to try that myself.
